The main objective is to develop a new hybrid urban bus, ecological and lightweight with a battery modular plattform and assisted by an eco-driving system to facilitate the implementation of electrical energy as alternative in urban transport and to reduce the negative consequences of the high mobility into the cities.
To evaluate the NGEN_BUS environmental improvements, the Life Cycle Analysis, LCA, methodology was used. It was found a 50% global impact lower than conventional hybrid buses due to the recycling method used, implementation of new materials and the battery modular system. An optimized 15% lighter bodywork was designed using aluminium for the superstructure and advanced steels for the chassis. Thermoplastics 100% recyclable and 26% lighter with an excellent surface finish were incorporated to the bodywork, improving the painting and assembly times.
The NGEN_BUS environmental impact and electrical autonomy were improved using the same design principles applied to the development of a battery modular system. In addition, an eco-driving system was developed to optimize the energy consumption and to reduce the vehicle emissions adaptable to the specific situations of the vehicle and to other models and scenarios.
The AIMEN´s role is focused on the lightening of the structure and recycling applied to the bodywork and battery modular platform, using lighter materials together with alternative joining technologies. In addition, the global LCA was developed by AIMEN.
