BATERURGIA project aims to respond the challenges posed by the recycling of LIB's and provide knowledge to solve the problems derived from the recovery and selective separation of critical metals to facilitate their use in the manufacturing of new batteries or, alternatively, to replace conventional raw materials and from other productive sectors, as alternative raw materials.
There is not a simple solution for recycling LIBs. The design of the various and complex materials is constantly improving, which requires a continuous evolution of recycling processes and new research for the development of new processes, combined processes or the use of new reagents that simplify and improve the existing processes.
Therefore, BATERURGIA is going to study advanced technologies (sensors, robotics, artificial vision) that allow selective dismantling to obtain black mass of higher quality and purity than what is currently obtained, not only to facilitate subsequent physicochemical processes and reduce purification costs, but also to develop processes adapted to the new batteries.
In this project, AIMEN will collaborate with LITTLE ENERGY in the study of key enabling technologies for the selection process of EV battery cells that have reached their end of useful life. For that, elements and techniques will be tested at laboratory scale to automate the battery dismantling procedures, as well as the integration of a system based on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements that allows knowing the status of the cells individually and thus carrying out a classification according to the state of health.
