The main objective of CONFORSHIP is the implementation in the shipbuilding industry of a new concept of automatic production of plates of complex curvature by thermal forming, developing the equipment (mechanisms) that allows this process, the computational support to plan and control the process, the numerical models and algorithms to feed the process and, in general, the necessary knowledge to ensure the safeguarding of current operators know-how.
This implementation is achieved through the development of enabling technologies:
- Numerical modeling of the heating system;
- Integrated process control and geometry measurement systems;
- Automatic programming systems based on predictive models and expert systems, integrated into a single equipment, resulting in a new concept of automatic machine and forming process, exportable, subsequently, to other industrial sectors.
This project has been promoted by the machinery manufacturer NODOSAFER S.L. (Project leader) and the shipyards C.N.P.FREIRE (Vigo) and NODOSA (Marin).
These shipyards have directed the integration of the different results and the validation of the developed technology in the environment of the shipbuilding industry.
The consortium also includes the participation of a large company like COREMAIN, specializing in software development, and SYSPRO Engineering (SME) specializing in automation and integration of industrial processes.
AIMEN and CITIC, 2 of the most important Galician Technological Centers in their respective research fields, have collaborated with the consortium, among other tasks, in the development of the numerical models and the expert system to predict the trajectory and sequencing heating lines to apply to the plates, obtaining the desired geometry.
