Development of a high energy efficient and low cost panel for the rehabilitation of building facades

  • Start: 01/10/2013
  • End: 30/06/2015

EDIFICIENT project aims to develop a new self-supporting and prefabricated panel for rehabilitation of building facades. This component has very attractive performance such as high lightness, handiness, thermal insulation capacity and low cost. Besides it greatly simplifies installation procedures reducing, in turn, labour cost. In order to attain the objectives established the development of different subsystems for manufacturing the new panel is required. More specifically, finite element method was used in order to design and dimension these subsystems. Similarly the equipment to manufacture the novel subsystems had to be developed in the cases with a lack of commercial equipment. In addition, the study and validation of the different joints involved in the integration of the subsystems and their anchorages to the facade to rehabilitate had to be performed. Finally all developments were validated by manufacturing and subsequent testing several demonstrators.
