Light free-cement concrete based on cellular geopolymers

  • Start: 01/02/2016
  • End: 30/11/2018

The project "LIGHT CEMENT-FREE CONCRETE BASED ON CELLULAR GEOPOLYMERS" is supported by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and the European Regional Developmen´s Funds within the OT1 "Promoting technological development, innovation and quality research" , in the framework of the operational program Feder Galicia 2014-2020, with a funding rate of 382,150 €.
GeoCel will develop new cement-free materials aimed at the construction industry with a very low environmental impact, through the efficient use of resources and raw materials. In particular, new geopolymer concretes with cellular structure will be developed by a geosynthesis process and the inclusion of wastes with a major presence in the Galician industrial activities.
The innovative products proposed in GeoCel are geopolymer concretes, insulation panels and draining and non-draining pavements, lighter, more economic and with a lower environmental footprint.
It is estimated that these products will allow reducing CO2 emissions up to 80% and will require down to 50% less of energy in their manufacturing process. For these reasons, GeoCel will also apply a life cycle analysis (LCA) and an economic analysis as tools to evaluate the improvements of the proposed solutions.
