The manufacture of steel products has significant challenges in terms of flexibility, increased diversity of manufactured products and more efficient manufacturing of higher performance products with a demand to reduce time-to-market. In this context, the ArcelorMittal group has the need to evolve the concept of manufacturing steel products.
To achieve this purpose, KETs4STEEL proposes, as the main objective of the project, the research in new materials, new materials processing technologies and new control strategies.
The results to be obtained in the framework of KETSs4STEEL include new intelligent monitoring and control systems (based on new data acquisition architectures), as well as additive manufacturing technologies, innovative and cost-efficient welding technologies, and high performance materials through the study and development of new filler materials.
AIMEN, as an international center of excellence specialized in enabling technologies (KETs), will provide the project with a large human team with extensive experience in the topics on which the project is focused, as well as laboratories and pilot plants in which to develop and test new materials and manufacturing technologies.
