Laser y Machining: Expert and optimized manufacturing system of high added value metallic parts

The main objective of LASMEC Project is the optimization of the manufacturing process of high added value metallic parts with complex geometry, combining in the same machine the additive and subtractive manufacturing, specifically by laser material deposition (LMD) and machining processes.
LASMEC Project will develop an expert system to support decision making process, which assist on the selection of the optimal manufacturing strategy, proposing if component has to be fabricated by LMD, machining or both. In this system, a laser processing head, a enriched CAD/CAM software and dimensional control will be developed and integrated in a prototype named LASMEC.
The validation stage of the LASMEC prototype will take place by manufacturing a part with complex geometry defined in the initial phase of the Project, in a pre-industrial environment and real world conditions, of with the aim of validating the new hybrid manufacturing process.
For the successful execution of the Project, a multidisciplinary team has been put together with the following partners: SORALUCE (Project leader), bespoke company in the machine-tool sector; CETEC-Grupo Copo, as end-user of the multi-process system; CT Ingenieros in the activity of supporting fabrication software; RTD center IDEKO, in the area of manufacturing technologies and industrial production; and AIMEN technological center, specialized in the applications of laser technology, additive manufacturing and development of monitoring and process control solutions.
This Project, with RTC-2015-4031-5 code, is supported by the Spanish Ministry OF Economy and Competitiveness, and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) in the framework of the “RETOS COLLABORATION 2015” and the national Program for Scientific and Technical Research and Innvoation(2013-2016) , with total funding composed by: 634.650€ loan and 532358€ grant. The program objective is to promote high quality standards on research, innovation and technological development.
