New forming processes and advance materials development for AHSS transformation

  • Start: 01/04/2006
  • End: 31/03/2010

FORMA0 project, led by SEAT S.A., has researched on AHSS, enabling lighter and safer vehicles, which allows improving fuel consumption, emissions and impact resistance. The project has focused on research of new materials and manufacturing processes that allow forming components with AHSS, mainly for the automotive industry.
AIMEN Technology Centre has been the technological leader of the following project activities:
AII: Laser assisted forming of AHSS.
AIII: AHSS forming by progressive plastic deformation.
AVI: Laser welding of AHSS.
BIII: Research on materials and processes to repair tooling.
The presence of AIMEN in the consortium FORMA0 has allowed developing knowledge about the use of different laser and welding processes on AHSS, and the characterization of new tool materials and coatings at micro and nanoscopic level. The general purpose of AIMEN participation in the project is the generation of knowledge about materials and new manufacturing processes to support companies in their R&D activities. FORMA0 project was chosen in the first CENIT research program, focused on strategic and technological areas of national interest. This project led by SEAT S.A. and driven and managed by the Fundació CTM Centre Tecnològic, together with other companies and research centers, has focused on research of new materials and manufacturing processes, which help to produce components with AHSS, mainly for the automotive industry, promoting the development of lighter and safer vehicles.
