The wine industry has significant environmental implications, mainly due to the consumption of water in the cleaning operations and the liquid spills that are generated during the winemaking stages.
The WETWINE project will provide solutions to the waste treatment problems of the wine industry based on an innovative pilot experience based on anaerobic digestion, constructed wetland and sludge treatment wetlands. Rational use of resources of the territory (water and winemaking growing), and its recycling as fertilizer to limit the generation of waste and soil and water pollution, will be promoted, reducing 90% the impact on the natural heritage.
The expected impacts of the project are:
- Waste valorisation from the wine sector, limiting emissions and pollution of soils and water (recovery of 90% of waste).
- WETWINE system and fertilizer obtained will reduce 90% of the impact of the wine activity in the SUDOE territory.
- Dissemination and communication of project results through WETWINE partners to the main denominations of origin in the SUDOE area (such as Rioja, Douro, Rías Baixas, Pays d'Oc).
