The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that unpredictable events have the potential of disrupting the manufacturing sector. However, it was shown the ability of many businesses to address flexibility to adapt and grow. Similar disruptions are expected in the near future, and the answer to tackling that is increased resilience of manufacturing firms. Especially, when medium or high-volume manufacturing industries are considered, resilience can only be achieved through rapid reconfigurability and digitalization.
The main objective of R3GROUP is to develop and demonstrate resilience strategies for reconfiguration in different industrial sectors. It requires a responsive new manufacturing approach that facilitates:
1) the launch of new product models to be undertaken very quickly, rapidly adjusting the manufacturing system capacity to address new market demands;
2) agile integration of new functions and process technologies into existing systems;
3) easy adaptation to variable production volume of products and iv) easy adaptation to supply chain deficiency.
AIMEN will lead the industrial deployment of project developments and full-scale demonstration and validation. Moreover, AIMEN will assess monitoring capabilities and incorporate IoT connectors and standardized s/w interfaces, define the monitoring and control architectures, investigate radiography as quality control approach for laser processes, and provide support on developing the interfaces between UX and Digital twin tools.
