The SILVA project addresses the development of a novel technological solution for forest monitoring based on a bespoke UAV-borne multispectral vision system with embedded processing capabilities, which will ease and improve considerably forest management and the effective control of plagues and illnesses in wide forestry areas. SILVA falls within the scope of a topic known as "Precision Silviculture", since it leverages TIC tools to extract relevant information about forests health.
The main results expected at the end of the project are:
- Bespoke UAV-borne multispectral system for the analysis of several forestry health parameters.
- Air/Ground data and control link based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) featuring dynamic antenna selection and Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS).
- Precision Forestry Management System (PFMS) based on an advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) for processing and visualization of data related to each specimen in a forest, using the imagery captured by the UAV-borne multispectral sensor.
AIMEN is in charge of the tailored design, both at the optical and electronic levels, for the multispectral imaging acquisition system based on OEM sensors used in consumer electronics and of the development of multispectral imaging segmentation algorithms.
