StreamSTEP is the vision of 31 organisations across EU, Switzerland, Norway and UK, aspiring to trigger significant improvements of how heating energy is managed within industrial processes. The project will address processes that generate waste heat across all temperature grades, from 135 ºC to over 1400 ºC, deploying five innovative heat exchanger prototypes for challenging applications and achieving flexible operation across multiple heat sinks. The strategic goal of the project is to streamline the adoption of advanced solutions, comprising both technologies and practices, for the sustainable use of heating energy in process industries. Thus, the goal will be achieved both through the deployment of innovative technological solutions, but also the delivery of tools, methodologies and other resources that lower the entry level to sustainable thermal management. It is crucial to address both aspects in a coordinated way, to address the knowledge barrier that inhibits decarbonisation efforts: lack of knowledge of upfront and operating costs, expectations – from the end user’s perspective and lack of tools and skills from the operator and industrial equipment perspective.
