Sustainable valorization of wine wastes

  • Start: 01/02/2016
  • End: 30/11/2018

The main objective of UVATEC project is the development and implementation of anaerobic technology and constructed wetlands to validate a demostration scale plant to treat wine wates. This plant is provided with a low cost remote control system irrigation or process water and a fertilizer suitable for the vineyards. The UVATEC project seeks to solve some of the environmental problems of the wine sector with a sustainable management of residual effluents produced. he UVATEC system, based on natural water purification systems, will have a low environmental impact, adapting even to areas within Red Natura. This technology will have a low energy consumption and therefore a much lower carbon footprint than other conventional treatment systems. In addition, it will allow the recovery of water for reuse, for example, in irrigation, and the production of fertilizers of natural origin for application in nearby vineyards. The main product of this project will be the integral plant for the treatment of residual effluents from wine industry. The plant will have a low cost of installation and operation. Other exploitable results of the project will be the feeding and operating strategies of the hydrolytic / methanogenic reactor and constructed wetlands, low cost remote control system for small WWTPs, echnology for nutrient recovery and fertilizer / technosol processing from anaerobic sludge/solid waste from wine industry. Aimen will expand their skills and knowledge in areas such as anaerobic digestion, constructed wetlands and their application in the wastewater treatment.
