The main objective of VARAL project is the is the development and implementation of membrane, anaerobic and wetland technology constructed to validate an innovative concept of a plant for the recovery of by-products and residual effluents from the dairy industry, obtaining value-added products, irrigation or process water and biogas for self-supply. In the VARAL project, 6 technological and know-how results will be obtained in the sector of the treatment and recovery of waste and dairy by-products: 1.-Integral plant for the treatment and recovery of by-products and residual effluents from the dairy sector. 2.-Module 1: System of valorisation of dairy serum in situ and efficient cost for low and variable flows (<30 m3 / d of whey). Feeding and operation strategy. 3.- Module 2: Anaerobic methanogenic cost efficient system for high load effluents. Feeding and operation strategy. 4.- Module 3: Anaerobic hydrolytic system with constructed wetlands and sludge treatment wetlands. Feeding and operation strategy. 5.- Characteristics of the dairy serum valorized in the cheese factory and definition of processes to obtain value-added products. 6.- Global strategy of construction and operation of the VARAL integral plant. Aimen will expand its capacities and its knowledge in topics such as anaerobic digestion, constructed wetlands and its application in the treatment and purification of wastewater. Acquire knowledge and experience in the design and management of nanofiltration and reverse osmosis systems.
