CAPRI’s main objective is to digitalize process industry using embedded cognitive solutions to improve their performance and flexibility, by enabling autonomous operation of plants and providing support for optimized human-driven decision-making. An innovative Cognitive Automation Platform based on four smart components (Smart IoT connection, Smart Events processing, Smart Knowledge modelling, Smart Decision support) will be developed, tested and validated in three industry plants (asphalt, steel and pharmaceutical). CAPRI main expected results are improved performance in production plants, decreased energy and resource consumption, and positive environmental impact by reducing CO2 emissions.
In this project, Aimen will develop a cognitive sensor to measure the total bitumen content of recycled asphalt, based on multispectral image analysis, a non-contact and non-destructive technique. The proposed solution will be supported by a convolutional neural network, capable to learn not only spectral but also spatial features, as well as to self-adapt to different illumination conditions.
