Advanced additively manufactured permanent magnets for new energy and mobility application

MagNEO's aims to obtain robust and sustainable rare earth elements (REE)-free permanent magnets (PM) for emergent energy & mobility applications. The concept hinges upon novel compositions of AlNiCo & High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) processed by additive manufacturing (AM). This will be accomplished trough a combination of modelling tools, machine learning and experimental screening of new compositions, optimization of magnet microstructure and shape and improvement of the thermal treatment. These will be crafting novel anisotropic microstructures characterized by higher coercivity, culminating in (BH)max values exceeding current ones.

AIMEN is focused in one hand on using Laser Directed Energy Deposition as high throughput manufacturing technology to select the optimal chemical compositions. On the other hand, AIMEN will deal with recycling strategies as reusing waste powder or scrap in bonded magnets.
